This bothers me. When you watch TV shows from the 70s and 80s, for example, it is common for an overweight father figure to have heart problems caused by his poor diet. It shows that back then we just knew that being fat would give you a heart attack. It was common knowledge. It is crazy to me that we have managed to unlearn this to the point where fat people seriously argue that there are no adverse health effects of being obese. Collective denial has made us so stupid.

True, but the study is about the question whether damage can be repaired by losing weight. It turns out that about 50% of bariatric patients restore their normal heart shape within a year.
