Many shirts marketed at adult men only come L or bigger now apparently. I bought a size medium long sleeve T and it was actually designed for a smallfat, I couldn't believe the shape! It has a large tubular torso that gets wider on the way down and skinny little stick arms that are tight around the forearm and shoulder. And don't even get me started on pants. The waist is supposed to be sized in inches! I should be able to find the size with a measuring tape! Why is "32" actually 34 inches? Why are 28s and 30s in the boys section?

If men refuse to abort their beer babies, they should be forced to shop in their own maternity section.

Men's tops of all sorts also seem to only be cut in an A-shape nowadays

"32" actually 34 inches?

The curse of being a skinny guy, along with the aforementioned smallfat shaped shirts. It's a toss up whether a shirt my size will actually fit properly or if it'll be baggy.

Yea all the vanity shit makes it extremely inconsistent, it would be nice if they just had a 'fit cut' section or something lol (I mean they have a tarp section so...)

Not even a toss up. It will be baggy. No exceptions found so far.

Ok, this is your problem. You're shopping at Old Navy and Target. It's not the style that I'm knocking it's that fact that these stores are for fat people. Last thing I bought at old Navy was maybe 10 years ago, I bout an XS long sleeve shirt that was still a little too big, and then when I washed it it suddenly tripled in size. Horrible crap. I vowed never again. You need to hit up more expensive stores... I'm sorry it's just the way it is. Try to buy less nice things than lots of cheap things.

On the plus side you will be super fashionable, and have clothes that are more unique. If you really want to buy off asian websites.

Do you have a store called Styles for less around you? This is where I go and the one in my town carries maybe the smallest selection of plus size ive ever seen while everything else is made true to size, which is amazing. It is usually a lot of pastel colored clothes though, so if that's not your style understandable hah.

Urgh don't even mention trends. It seems there's a law for all dresses to be skater dresses. Why? Because they look flattering on fats that have no waist and gives the illusion they have one.

They can look great on shitladies don't get me wrong but for women with an actual hourglass? Nope. The placement of the "waist" line makes you look wider and hides your actual waist. Fuck skater dresses. Rant over.

EVERYTHING is made to "flatter" fatties : Pretty much all tops are wider at the hem than at the shoulder ; so many dresses and skirts have those weird asymetrical hems ; ALL boots are wide calfed, and the ones actually marked wide calf are extra extra wide; all sandals are built with a high arch to the part that goes over the top of the foot, to accomodate fat padding...Even when the garments are XXS, they are styled exactly the same as the XXLs and above, so while they may take a few pounds off the landwhales, they'll make slim women look heavier/wider. It's awful.

Googled skater dress. OMG, suck an issue. I am tall and thin, so the waist is always some odd place between my belly button and my bra band. Or the boob part fits, but the rest is loose. I just buy stretchy things these days.

I thought it would still look good on any thin shitlady as long as she doesn't have a very defined waist. But urgh between the button and band is such an awkward spot.

Preach! As a fellow hourglass shitlady, I cannot stand current trends. Shop for most of my clothes at thrift and consignment stores because vanity sizing, skater dresses, and flowy shapeless tops have taken over everything. Flowy tops make me look like a box, when I'd much rather show off my actual waist.

Don't forget tops with big ass ruffles over the chest to make you look "cute". I went to a store and their current collection had almost all tops like that and I thought it might look cute but then got depressed the moment I put it on in the changing room. Total box alert.

I like buying those kinds of stretchy dresses / tops like these. for winter.

Also the fashion industry seems to hate bras even more than it used to, there's so many tops and dresses with ridiculously low cleavages right down to the waistband and it's like "yeah you can only pull this off if you have nothing there".

Honestly I didn't even realize why the hell I have so much trouble with clothing (apart from the boob thing but that's kinda obvious) till I got together with my boyfriend because he was like "woah. I've never seen a waist like yours". We're such magical sparkly unicorns we don't know we exist ourselves! LOL.

this rant was longer than intended.

my bf and I were at target and he was making fun of me because some clothes in the toddler section were actually big enough for me. I'm not even that small, 5'2" and a BMI of 19.4 which is within healthy weight range. also, it's basically impossible to find shorts that fit me at the waist now. size S comes in 28" waist, a lot of stuff don't even come in XS, and I'm not good enough at sewing to take in 4" at the waist and have it not look weird.

Wait what 28" is now an S? How the hell am I an S at 5'9?

Welcome to S-XS as a tall person. Everything is too short. I have this beautiful bodice for renaissance fair in XS, fits everywhere but, you know comes up 3 inches above my belly button. Ren Fair sizes are SUPER vanity because fats love to dress up. So, there is limited small stuff, or it's children's styles.

I'd avoid the big box stores if you want to avoid the fat sizes. The two tend to be correlated.

I used to work at Old Navy and we sold (imo) fat people clothes for the most part.

I've found the sweetheart cut old Navy jeans in short fit me pretty well. I'm about 5'2" and 102lbs and they fit me pretty well, usually need a bit of hemming though. I have size 4s rhat are the same as newer size 2s and even 0s! What the hell old Navy!?
