I would argue that it is not the money that is causing them to be fit and healthy. It is instead the mentality that people have. Those people who would care about their bodies and eat healthy and exercise are have qualities that are conducive to financial stability. You can eat healthy food on a budget. It is the junk food that is expensive. It follows that the reason poor people tend to be fat is not that they are poor financially but that they instead have poor characteristics.

I completely agree. People who focus on the longterm--those who plan their careers and set financial and career goals for themselves, those who invest and plan for the future--are also those who understand they need to take care of their bodies to ensure they are healthy in the future, too. Fats, however, only think about their immediate wants, and give little to no thought about taking care of their bodies and maintaining health, let alone planning for their financial futures.

"Self-care" means taking care of your current self AND you future self, body-wise and money-wise. It does not mean eating a gallon of low-quality ice cream and whining on Tumblr.
