Except us smokers know better than to force our poor decisions on other people. We are rightly ashamed and don't advocate acceptance.
Edit: Additionally, people didn't know smoking was bad at first, but people used to know that fat was bad. It's kind of the reverse.

Not all smokers are considerate. My main beef with smokers is when they light up at the park while my children are playing on the playground. It's usually fat smokers who do this though.

That's what gets me when FAs bitch how smokers aren't 'shamed.' It's like dude they can't smoke in most public places, they get sequestered to little zones most times, they see how people visually react if they walk by and smell the smoke, they are shamed plenty. The thing is, you won't find any sane smoker who boast how they are so healthy even if they smoke, or how smoking isn't bad etc.

To be fair smokers still have various unfair advantages in society, perhaps the most prevalent one is "muh you can't discriminate against muh addiction/disease requiring me to take smoke breaks all the time at work".
I know this is a fat hate sub, but smoking is literally cancer and should be treated as such. I'm not really a fan of government regulations, but if there was any reason smoking would basically be illegal anywhere in public. Atleast fat consequences doesn't spread through the air.

I gotcha, smokey geek girl, just thought it was a funny closing observation. If you were around when indoor smoking was being banned from public establishments, you may have a different attitude about smokers and their 'shame'.

I was around for those days (Yeah, I'm old too.). I do agree that there was a lot of initial resentment, but as more and more actual scientific information came out about the health risks for smokers themselves and the others around them, it certainly died down. The HAES movement seems to be directly opposite.
