Reading your blog reminded me is that “faster” doesn’t mean “better” for me.

"For me" = "I'm spewing self-rationalizing bullshit because I'm too fat to be a competitive runner."

I let other people tell me what achievement should look like.

Then why call it running?

That was a mistake.

In what way?

I ran a 5k last weekend (slowly!), I’m signed up for a 10k next month, and a half marathon (with no time limit!) 6 months from now.

That's not fucking running or even jogging, that's walking. On a related note, Ragen's marathon times are slower than the average walking pace Google Maps estimates for the average human.

They take this way too far and totally misinterpret it to suit their excuses. Nothing new there. Being slow is fine, as long as you're not interfering with or holding anyone else back. Do your thing, don't get in people's way. But the self-improvement part means you should be getting faster, stronger, better. If there's no progress, wtf are you doing? How are you training, practicing?

Oh well, just another symptom of participation trophy society, where everyone's a superstar simply by showing up.
