Okay, I made an account to say this, so here goes. I feel really strongly about this misconception.

I have an eating disorder—and not the kind that ignorant people use to describe their crash diets. I became underweight. When I first started noticing I had a problem, I thought I could talk about it with the people I knew. Most of my peers were supportive but there's something two people have said (both were rather large) that have harmed my progress in recovery and which mirror the illogical thoughts this post describes.

"You weigh less than others because you eat MORE! Your overweight friends are starving themselves." Helloo?! I don't see them restricting enough to fuck up their vital signs, to make their doctors concerned about their weight, or to lose their periods. And come on, am I supposed to eat LESS then?! I remember feeling really shocked and invalidated because I was thinking "oh my god, but they're fat, you think they have a starvation problem?!" So my point is, this logic is harmful to actual people with actual eating disorders. If you're overeating and that makes you overweight, your denial is going to make it worse for the minority of people with EDs too.

Many times I can't really tell others about eating because, well, they'll ask me if they're fat and I can't say anything except "Well yeah. But! This isn't about you, you self-centered idiot."

This was really hard for me to post because I don't know how fatpeoplehate will take it. Thanks for listening if you read this far, please don't be too harsh on me <3

Thanks <3 I didn't actually know that other members talked about this! (Other than Lee Lemon) I was actually really nervous that people on here would call my healthy/fine and that I didn't need help (I'm 155 cm and around 38.6 kg)

And yeah, sometimes this kind of "omg!!! Fat people are ~starving~" mentality can really fuck up my experiences when I have actual experience with undereating :/
