I don't really like anorexia being grouped with obesity. They share almost no similarities and are incomparable in terms of urgency. We don't have an eating disorder epidemic. It feeds the deflection of "b-b-but eating disorders" fats use every time their wanton gluttony and dieting are brought up. You fix obesity by eating less, period. You don't fix AN with weight gain. The whole question strikes me as a way to address fats without making it look like we're targetting them. That would be mean, of course, to point out that people are fat.

Anorexia is a psychological disorder. Obesity is just you making up excuses for being a lazy fuck

It is the classic deflection. Articles were in the news again about body image concerns on the rise... and not a single one got anywhere near suggesting that it's possibly driven by the fear of getting as fat as the likes of Tess. It's all thrown as a deflection to say 'REEE beauty standards,' whereas actually obesity is the likely crux, no-one wants to be 600lbs and it's been shoved in everyone's faces for years now. "No diet talk. No body shame." Myths and poor dietary advice abound, it's no wonder to me to see this develop this way.

It's annoying because you can't argue that EDs don't deserve support and aren't an issue. You also can't argue that fats are the sole cause because they aren't. So you end up diluting what should be a productive talk about the obesity crisis with talk about EDs which, if we're realistic, affect a politically insignificant amount of the population. The whole thing turns into a Tumblr jerk about how bad diet talk is and food obsession and fats use it as a pass. They belittle real victims in the eating disordered to keep being disgusting, lazy, and a burden.
