Plus, thermal decomp products are nasty. HF and I'd assume a COx

I wouldn't expect much HF as there is no H in the PTFE molecule. Most of the products would be various mixes of C-O-F molecules. There's some that can wreak a lot of havoc though, like PFIB, and PFOA. All this of course needs the PTFE to be heated above 300C or more.
