My sister does a lot of work with impoverished minorities in public schools. One family got onto SNAP, and the mom was remarking that they were eating like kings now. They went from 200$ a month for food to 400$ a month for food. And you can bet they weren't buying processed crap with it. If you don't buy processed crap, you can eat steak and lobster and roasts almost every night on SNAP.

Holy shit, between me and my boyfriend we spend about $40/week on food. Granted, we don't necessarily need to budget, but it's always nice to save money. I do all of the cooking so I know how to make delicious meals out rice, beans, and fruits and vegetables that I grow/buy in the summer and can and freeze myself.

I can't imagine what I'd do if I even did have $400 to spend. I know the lady must have a couple kids so that raises the amount spent, but still.
