The calories for dollar approach might be valid if just getting your 2000-2500 calories per day was hard, but the average person is consuming 4000- 5000 easily, and obesity, diabetes, heart disease etc. is rampant.

I eat plant based now, and it isn't that costly. I cannot always buy what I want, and tend to grab stuff on sale, but I am happy and my health is excellent in my 50's. I spent way more when I ate what I call "the Men's health diet" (based on the magazine) where I was eating tons of meat, and I spent a lot more way back when I was eating the drive thru window, and frozen pizza/dinners diet.
