I live right near one of the country's biggest food deserts. My town is basically split in half--the poor half and the rest--right down what is 7th street in most of the city. Everything to the West is somewhere you wouldn't want to go alone, ever, even in broad daylight.

And yet majestically, the obese population there is not any bigger than the obese population in the rest of the country, statistically. Because no matter what shitty food they have access to, they know how much of it to consume. It's not rocket science.
