It's rather common in America. It stays refrigerated and is perishable (I suppose it's more of a reinforced cardboard plus flexible metal tube?)
The calories are awful (because bread) but it's how Pillsbury (and other brands) sells the crescent rolls along with biscuits and a lot of breads that rise from baking soda +heat. I think there are some with active yeast but I've never used em.
You bake it same day and Honestly it's quite tasty I don't think it's more processed then the bread you'd buy from a grocery store's non-bakery selection. It's a calorie bomb and people with no self control could eat way too many but it's not as gross as it sounds.

The French bread loaves are great as pizza crust. Just unroll and flatten.
