Congrats - I just started running this year. I always ran for/during sports - rugby, volleyball, swimming-as-honorable-mention because it's cardio but not running.

But I had never attempted to run farther than a mile in one shot. I'd burn it like hell, then be 100% exhausted and would wonder how anyone would want to go farther. I was coming in under 6 min per mile. Eventually realized I could JOG and not run.

First time I ran 1.5 miles, I wanted to die. Literally two weeks later, I was prepping for a 5k - the impossibly long distance. Boss-fight mentality. Good night's sleep. Carbs for breakfast. Cleared my schedule for the rest of the day in case I was too exhausted to move. And it was over before I knew it - that's it? So I went and played volleyball after.

Funny how being in shape and doing athletic things work together.

I've come to realize that I'm a pretty fast person, because I have a couple of people slightly jealous that I've only been running for two months and my current 5K PR is 28:32.
