I don't know about other people, but I much prefer massaging bony or muscular bodies rather than rubbing lumps of fat.

As someone with unofficial training but a natural inclination with massage, I agree. Fat people are hard to work on. I have had to stand on my tippy toes, leaning my entire body weight into a fat just to access muscle. It's not fun and I can't imagine it would be easier with formal training. There's just too much in the way.
