My mom is from Morocco and is a classically trained chef. She's highly active, practices yoga, was a dancer in her youth and has instilled a sense of excersize and whole eating for me and my siblings. My big sister is a sponsored rock climber and I danced ballet professionally, and now I lift. My big brother USED to be the classic gym rat, he also nursed a secret coke addiction for years during college and grad school. He used to be huge, cut up and really proud of his physique. Over the last few years he's gotten sober, graduated NYU and began running a very successful restaurant in the lower east side. Since then, the excersize has ceased. My brother is a fucking ham. Recently my mom went to visit him in NY and apparently her helicopter-mom instincts kicked in and she had a "chat" with my 30 year old brother about what a lardass he's become. Apparently it really upset him but everytime we talk about him her first thing she ALWAYS says is "he is SO fat now. He's just FAT. I can't believe it". Learned from the best I guess.

My mom will be 62 in December, she's like 4'11 and 110lbs which she is still upset about because she's always hovered around 105 haha. I've never seen that woman be sedentary, but she couldn't be because she was a single mom of three and for 4 years took care of her best friend dying of brain cancer (she lived with us in lieu of having nurses/she watched me when my mom wasn't home). I aspire to be like my mom because she came from a Bedoin life in Morocco (we're Berbers) and took care of shit from her own physique to my siblings to her passion in work. It upsets me so much my brother has forsaken his health. When my mom visited him she said they ate out every meal, even when she offered to make dinner, and my brother and his boyfriend ate basically only carbs, in HUGE portions. Carby appetizers followed by carby entrees and lots of wine. She sounded defeated. That's never how we ate growing up.
