The Slaughter-House Cases was a famous US Supreme Court decision which basically gutted the meaning of the Privileges and Immunities clause of the 14th Amendment. This lack of adequate legal protection for basic rights then later gave rise to the abomination that is Substantive Due Process to make up for it. In that regard, it was one of the worst Supreme Court decisions ever.

If you really want to understand it you should look it up and do some research, though. It is a more complicated topic than I can cover quickly here for you. Plus it was long ago when I studied it, so I’d need to refresh my memory some on the particulars of the cases and the decision.
