So I did some quick reading on the topic of getting HAM radios for our communities, because one of our citizens brought it up.
Not unsurprisingly the powers that be have fairly strictly regulated radio. Can't have the peasants talking freely now can we!?
Radio equipment cannot be bought without a license.
The only unregulated radio equipment/frequencies I read about was UHF (Ultra High Frequency) walkie talkies limited to about 4 watts of power. These radio waves do not travel very far and obviously even shorter with their power limit.
In short if we want to seriously use radio we would need to hide our communications using encryption and build our own radio equipment.
What I will do though is to make sure we have at least one good book on how to build radios in case there is a collapse.

Any idea what the rules are in the EU for buying HAM equipment?
