Have you ever wondered if you've leaked enough personal information for someone to dox you? Have you ever wondered what people do when trying to discover someone's identity?
This subverse was made for users to challenge one another to see if they can identify you from your digital presence for entertainment. The idea is if you're curious about yourself you make a post to issue the challenge. Others are free to try and identify you and once they have you confirm that they did it accurately. Eventually we may have a reward of some sort or a leaderboard, something to motivate our would-be doxxers.
Privacy here is very important. Nobody wants their personal information released to the public on the internet. I figure the best way to keep identities private when you're posting publicly is to encrypt it or communicate the sensitive information privately. Posts and comments with any plain-text identifying information will be deleted, no questions asked. I'll leave it up to the one issuing the challenge to decide exactly what they feel comfortable with but some ideas include: sending a private message via voat, posting your public PGP key so your information can be encrypted and sent back to you in a comment on the post, or if you're really brave, have them call you (what better way to demonstrate that they found you?).
Here's what I'm thinking the steps will be:
- User posts with their preferred method of response. Feel free to include as much information about yourself as you want to aid the doxxers in finding you (e.g. you have the same username on Reddit), or maybe save that as a hint if people are having trouble.
- Other users see new posts and try to find out the OP's identity IRL. Use whatever devious methods you like (I don't care if your methods are illegal, just don't do anything that could harm someone else and don't get yourself arrested).
- The user comments that they found them without any personally identifying information (unless encrypted). Describe the steps you took without being specific enough that the individual could be identified.
- The OP confirms they were found if the info checks out.
- ???
- Profit!
Please remember that this is being done for fun and the challenge. Nobody is asking to be identified and then harassed. The primary motivations here is to be a place where people can learn if they can be doxxed, test their stalking skills, and learn from those with more experience in this area. I'm open to any ideas people have for the subverse!

So? How'd I do? ;)

Not too bad. You got the major city near the town I live in and my last name, but with my nickname rather than legal first. Still not too shabby. I guess my name makes me a little harder to track down since different records will have different names. I am curious how you found that much though.

I used a combination of social networks - here, the "other" site, Steam, Twitter and Facebook, Pipl, Spokeo and Google. From there, it was just a matter of narrowing it down to one of the 2 or 3 people I found based on your interests and post history - cross-referencing, basically. I stopped once I thought I had your name. As it turns out, you seem to use a nickname online in place of your actual name, which is super smart. :)
As I mentioned (just for clarity, not bragging), this was my first dox attempt and I was using a stock Nexus 7 as my computer, which I am not super familiar with.
Edit: If you still play Rift, let me know. Been looking to get back into it. :P
