This is one of my 25 all time favorite movies. Top 10 sci fi. Nowhere near enough people have seen it. Nowhere near enough people who have seen it appreciate it to it's true value.

you should post your list of favorite movies somewhere then, it's difficult to find the good among the rest.

I read the article it seems like the directors cut is slight different, but in a good way. Would you agree with that statement?

This movie was just a movie that had nearly every sci-fi element that I absolutely love. Conspiracy, Noir Tones, an almost anachronistic feel and a questioning of reality along with some serious deep mindfucking. Loved that shit.

The Matrix filled in all the other shit. Mechs, the overall cyberpunk aesthetic and, not sure if anyone else noticed but on that laptop that Trinity uses in the first movie, I could be wrong, I paused it a hundred times but I swear she was using Linux Terminals. Can't say what distro she was using but it sure as shit looked like she was fucking with a bash terminal. Neo, on the other hand, had newspapers ex machina on his machine and the windows all looked like Mac windows before they finally made contact.

I like the fact that they intentionally left out most of the tech in Dark City because it leaned heavily on the storytelling rather than visuals which it still had in spades.

It's another reason I consider Quantum Leap one of the best Sci-Fi TV Series ever. More reliance on stories of human interest and barely any tech to be mentioned. You mostly only saw a handlink carried by Al and the door to the imaging chamber open and close.

For those interested after this post that haven't seen the film yet, I recommend against reading this article (for now) and only watch the Director's cut, as the theatrical version has a voiceover in the beginning that spoils pretty much the whole thing.
