It's not the big picture but rather the fine details of verifying the theory and the methods used for verification. This is like all research in evolutionary biology. The general theory of evolution is universally accepted by everyone except religious ideologues. That doesn't mean that the hundreds of thousands of studies are valueless. Each one is another brick in a massive edifice. The title perhaps leaves something to be desired, but that's another matter.
