Glad to hear she's arming herself. My sister runs a belly band holster for her subcompact and seems to like it well enough. she isn't much of a runner, but she wears a ton of shear and feminine clothing and it conceals well enough.

https://www.gungoddess.com/ Has a ton of options. Best of luck and keep us informed with her decision.

Do you know what sort of firearm she is getting? My suggestion is to hit a range and rent every subcompact they have in 9mm. Touch and shoot everything they have then pick the one that feels right. Skip the .380. you can get lower recoil 9mm loads, but also go up to +p loads, whereas a 380 will always be an under performing 9mm.

If she isn't really into guns, a revolver may be a good choice as you just point and pull the trigger really hard. Downside of a revolver is that the trigger pull is usually pretty heavy, so it requires more trigger discipline. Also she'll only get 6 or less shots and they are a pain to reload--even with speed loaders.

I highly recommend checking out the Springfield XDe. Its a double action, hammer fired, single stack, semi-auto, available in 9mm and .45acp, and it takes XDs magazines and accessories. You get the benefits of a double action revolver, with 9+ rounds in a magazine. Its also like 40% easier to rack the slide than a normal semi-auto, so its great for girls who don't have kung-fu-ninja-action-death-grips.

Running, and for women, is where it gets complicated. So many go the fanny pack route and I personally don't see that as a viable option. I'm not a caliber fag, or a you gotta do "THIS" to carry a gun person like so many, I believe in carry what you can, how you can and do whatever but be armed. (ie: empty chamber, mouse guns or inaccessible)

That said, taking one is better than not, ALWAYS. But for a run, and being a woman, there is really only one, maybe two, options.

The Original Belly Band

Flashbang Bra Holster - I haven't tested this style but all the requirements are there and the concept is sound from my perspective.

Edit: " Going with her to choose a pistol tomorrow "

  • a revolver. A revolver is always a good gun for someone not familiar, or unable to practice as much as they should. Revolvers are the Original Point and Shoot device that require little muscle memory or intuitive reaction.

Story time- I bought my mother a .357 snubby for Christmas but she was worried about how safe it was. Empty, I cocked the hammer back and threw it 20' across the floor(not gently). The hammer was still cocked and even had it not been, there is a drop safety in ALL new revolvers that REQUIRE the trigger to be fully depressed, and held, in order for it to fire.

Revolvers. The same size and weight as a mid size semi auto with twice the safety and ease of use.

Wanted to throw in some experience--well, not my experience, as I don't have breasts, but from someone who does with the flashbang.

They tend to bounce around if you don't have huge lady-bits holding the gun down, are uncomfortable despite being covered in leather/felt, and arn't terribly secure, as its just a kydex holster with a slit going across the bottom. The concept is great, the execution leaves some to be desired.

I can envision that as it is a good description. My thought was one of those sports bras that hug the boobies although I'm not sure how it would attach. Again, mine was just theory and there are definitely downsides to it.

The belly band might make her sweat too much which is why I listed the flashbang as an alternative so there really is no good answer for the required criteria.

Check out Aliengear, they have a lot of great holsters and are very comfortable.

For anti-rape the boob holster puts the gun in a good location if grabbed from behind.

Haven't tried this even though my large 3D breasts would accommodate it. We will see though.

I find anything on a belt in at the lumbar tends to bounce alot and is a real pain.

An underarm holster needs straps around the chest to keep it still, which i hate.

I hate the feeling of a thigh holster it just rubbs me the wrong way.

A standard belt holster is comfort able enough to wear but after 6month+ every day it starts bruising and hurting the hips.

In other words, get a bunch of different holsters, whatever you wear will piss you off eventually and you will find you just want to change every so often.

I wouldn't recommend the inner thigh holster.
