So we can assess the temperature of previous millennia via proxies. It is less than idea, but it's still something.

Humans weren't dumping this much CO2 into the atmosphere thousands of years ago, so what does it matter what the temperature was 2k years ago? We can assess that humans are causing it today.

Because it establishes a better baseline. But yeah, let's ignore the fact that we know so very, VERY little about the earth's climate

What do you mean a "better baseline"? I don't think you actually understand why climate change is a problem. You seem very ignorant on the basics.

Yes, the Earth has been hotter before. Yes, the Earth will be fine after climate change. The problem is the cost to modern society that we will have to pay; clean up, relocation efforts, water shortages, floods, extreme weather, etc.

What happened 2k years ago is 100% irrelevant to human induced CO2 today.
