They're, technically, emission free, but that electricity comes from various sources. Is this something people don't get?
As an aside, has anybody stopped to think about the fact that we still basically use steam power? Aside from solar and a few hyrdo dams and wind farms, like 75+% of our power comes from fucking steam. We've gone so far, yet nowhere.
We use the combustion of things such as coal, or the radiation of uranium (that's what they use, right?) to heat water to steam, which we then use to turn turbines and produce electricity.
So, yeah, it's 'combustion' powered, but we use it to superheat water and keep it pressurized to turn into steam.
