(disclaimer: this is based on stuff I have read, I have no first hand knowledge)
Based on accounts I have read, Roman Catholic nuns are brainwashed into an oath of Obedience when they take the veil. Part of this brainwashing includes the notion that they have to obey the priests, and anything a priest asks of them to do is acceptable to God. The Superior nuns are complicit in manipulating and brainwashing. Nuns often get pregnant by the priests - the babies are then baptized and smothered by other nuns - this is seen as a great favor to the babies, because they have not had the chance to 'sin', and having been baptized, their ascent to heaven is assured.
There was a recent scandal in the 1980s when some nuns escaped from a convent and managed to get their story out before they were murdered. And going further back, look up a 19th century book called "The Suffering of Maria Monk", an autobiographical account by a nun who was raped and impregnated at a convent in Montreal before she escaped to New York.
