abs unlocks your wheels when they lock up to let them keep rolling so you can steer. ABS kills people wgho roll off of cliffs rather than "snowplow" to a stop. Don't believe me? Do this test.
1 Find a gravel road.
2) acclerate to 25 and slam on rthe brakes and hold them as your abs kicks in and you roll to a stop. Mark the spot.
3) back up and redo the test but when you hi the brakes turn off your engine (and abs by default) and watch how much faster you stop when you tires "snowplow" the gravel and you stop much sooner.

On gravel. Try that on pavement and the difference will be maybe half a car length.
