I somewhat agree on the dullness, it was a very slow build up for a not-so-big climax. It definitely had that kind of meditative style he has, albeit the last time I read anything by him was a couple years ago, so we probably had different experiences with regards to the "more of the same"
Interestingly, I started reading this one because I saw it at the top of a "Murakami's best novels" list. I found Wind-Up Bird Chronicle to be better.
