I haven't seen Dumas in many classroom lists. I've never seen any school list include his works because they tend to be rather long and translated from french (likely making it more expensive). Dostoevsky because of content issues (religion, murder, prostitutes, gambling...). The Iliad, the Odyssey gets all the attention. Poe and Robert Louis Stephenson and likely under represented, simply because one of their works is included. Mark Twain because saying nigger in the context of being critical of it is "racism". A stronger focus on philosophical ideals and reasoning could also help.

Now for stuff that might not be Voat's cup of tea. The 4 Classics of Chinese literature, The Romance of the Three Kingdoms, Water Margin, Journey to the West (Monkey) and Dream of Red Chamber. In general Asian classics are very much ignored in western classrooms. I'd likely avoid Confucianism, but Buddhist particularly Zen Buddhist works would be rather enlightening for some students.

Why would you avoid Confucianism? Im genuinely curious, as I want to slowly work my way around to all of the workds oldest and greatest books. I also want to read some of the Hindu religious texts as well..

Confucianism as an intellectual philosophical form is rather stunted. It's complete focus is on suppressing rebellious thought to establish order. And I am of the opinion that rebellion is a sign of intellect and should be guided. To focus on harnessing it for the benefits it can bring. Because a rebel can point at a problem and suggest a solution. A person following a strict Confucian philosophy will follow orders to the letter and not recognize the benefit of change or the mistakes of leadership. Korean Airlines followed a Confucian work philosophy and when the senior pilot was flying, the co-pilot wouldn't tell him the plane had a problem (this led to a number of fatal crashes).

Unlike basically any other philosophy, Confucianism is about not ask questions. It is about accepting answers and staying in the role society has given you. Now I wouldn't ignore it, but I don't find it very valuable for the purpose of education. About the only benefit is that students that follow it listen to teachers. It does has some merit in understanding how to deal with places like China, Japan, Korea and Taiwan, which are dominated by this order and obedience philosophy.

The Gulag Archipelago, by Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn

The Gulag Archipelago is Solzhenitsyn's attempt to compile a literary-historical record of the vast system of prisons and labor camps that came into being shortly after the Bolsheviks seized power in Russia in 1917 and that underwent an enormous expansion during the rule of Stalin from 1924 to 1953. Various sections of the three volumes describe the arrest, interrogation, conviction, transportation, and imprisonment of the Gulag's victims by Soviet authorities over four decades. The work mingles historical exposition and Solzhenitsyn's own autobiographical accounts with the voluminous personal testimony of other inmates that he collected and committed to memory during his imprisonment.Upon publication of the first volume of The Gulag Archipelago, Solzhenitsyn was immediately attacked in the Soviet press. Despite the intense interest in his fate that was shown in the West, he was arrested and charged with treason on February 12, 1974, and was exiled from the Soviet Union the following day.

There are indeed gaps in the school curriculum. Studying them allows students to avoid unnecessary academic load. All this will come into the curriculum later in college and university. Here we get a small problem - the lack of student's time to examine all the material under study. So it's just wonderful that students have the opportunity to get one-to-one writing help from ThePensters.com. This will allow you to understand quickly the concern and prevent slowly learning.
