Just finished reading the new Harry Potter book.
I found it to be an acceptable addition to the series.
The format is a little difficult to get used to, due to it being a play script and all. But it doesn't take too long to adjust. It's almost kind of like reading a thread or chat room.
The first chunk of the book isn't anything too spectacular. I was pretty much on the fence about it. But then around act 2, shit starts picking up.
They took the story to a place a never considered a possibility. But did a good job with it.
Although you can often tell that it's mostly penned by a different author, you can also see JK's hand in expanding on the lore and stuff from the original series.
All in all I would give it a 7/10 or so. It's a quick read but well worth it.

I didn't like it very much. Maybe a 4/10. The characters from the original felt weird (which of course can be accounted for by saying "well, 19 years have passed," but it wasn't the same. Also, I hated the departure from what felt like established lore:
Also, even the new characters, the kids, seemed to be less people and more changeable plot devices for whatever needed to happen next. The villain just made me yawn. By the time you see the plot and plan, the magic of the setting has been shattered and it's apparent to the reader that good beats evil, yada yada yada.
