Some friends and I made up a card game with a standard deck of cards when we were on an archaeological dig. We dealt out an arbitrary number of cards to each player and started playing. We didn't know what we were playing or what the goal was, but it evolved into a surprisingly strategic game that took cues from our archaeology terms. We played that game the remainder of the time we were on the dig and taught it to many people. I forget some of the rules now but if anyone's interested I can give more details.
