I'm getting into Bitcoin (been lurking here) and was excitedly telling my wife what I had learned so far. She's Russian and also spent some time in Greece so she is interested in all the Bitcoin news coming out of Europe
I suggested we start using Bitcoin. She asked if we could use it to buy groceries at our local supermarket. Umm, no. Can we get gas or pay the hydro bill with it? Well, not really. Can we use it downtown or at the mall? Unfortunately no.
Then she asked "So what's the point of having Bitcoin?" I realized she wanted practical, everyday uses for it and I couldn't think of a single one!
Can you guys fill me in on how Bitcoin could improve my life over fiat money? We live in the Toronto area, Ontario, Canada and there's a couple of Bitcoin ATMs nearby. Aside from novelty use, why would I get Bitcoin?

At this point you would buy it because you think it might have a use in the future and be worth more than you payed for it now. In other words speculation. Day to day there isn't much use for it yet. Frictionless global money with an API is something that the world hasn't seen before so nobody knows what to do with it yet. ;)
