I recently put up a bird feeder so we could watch birds. At first we got some very pretty birds. Soon, the chipmunks came. Next came the squirrels. They started taking over the feeder and soon devoured all the food.
I installed a squirrel cone. Then the squirrels were amusing as they kept trying to get around the obstacle.
I started out with a 3 pound bag of feed. Next a 5 pound bag. Now I'm up to a 40 pound bag because the feed goes quickly.
All the local animals know I supply free food for the birds. Now my new bird house is dirty and looks like a section 8 housing structure. Birds crowd around it, fighting to get their free gibs. Squirrels and chipmunks surrounded the feeder waiting for the birds to drop food on the grass.
Everyday I have to clean bird poop and take the empty shells up from the ground. My 40 pound bag of food may only last a month at this rate. Now all I see for birds are these black aggressive ones. The bright colorful birds don't come around anymore.
