Not many people mention this movie, but it is a classic in the true sense of the word. Many would argue that it is cliche, but that is only because the plot and the characters have been copied countless times since its release.
It's rough around the edges, the fight choreography isn't as smooth as in more recent movies, the pacing is a little stiff in places. Don't let that dissuade you though, everyone ought to watch this movie at least once in their lives, especially if you're interested in Sengoku Jidai and the samurai.
There is no bullshit diversity, there is no strong womyn, the movie doesn't pull punches when describing the nature of the peasant poor.
