Rats make wonderful companions. They're very intelligent and loving, can be taught their names and a variety of cute behaviors. They love to snuggle, give kisses, do tricks. They love to learn new things. Downside is the incredibly short lifespan, which runs in the area of 3-4 years. If you love rats, but can't handle the heartbreak, ferrets are similar in personality and behavior, but live twice as long.
If you can't handle the heartbreak of the ferret lifespan, and are clinically insane, consider raccoons, who live up to 20 years
in an appropriate environment, and share many of the behaviors and personality traits of both ferrets and rats. 💖💖💖
Meet Regus. He was abandoned at birth by his parents. Regus found comfort cuddling with Mr. Teddy. Sadly, Sally, the owner of Mr. Teddy wasn't pleased. Regus was squashed by her parents shortly after this photo was taken.

I'll be nice and not post the pictures of my snake hugging a rat...
