If it's not personal experiential knowledge, then we only know what we've been told. Sure there are some gay mammals and the earth is most likely older than 6,000 years. But question everything, never assume forgone conclusions on hot topics just because the crowd believes it.
That's how witches get burned at the stake kindled with banned books.

No. It's not. Questioning religion is what got people burned, AND burned books.
Stop pretending that religion is questioning anything, it is not. It has a BOOK that tells it exactly what to think. That is NOT questioning, that is NOT reasoning.
You and I and ANYONE can reproduce the experiments that scientists use to PROVE what is true, that's why it's called RE-search, you do the experiment yourself to prove it comes out the same way every time.

Thank you for exhibiting reason.

Seems the metaphor was missed. Atheists can 'burn witches and books' just as much as religious people do. Such as Stalin's mass genocide against religion. Atheists are just as capable of ignorantly slaughtering millions for some pious ideals written in a "holy" book like the Communist Manifesto.
It's all just human nature, the names and ideologies change but the horrors of blind obedience to the mob mentality doesn't change.
The second point was referring to current events/social issues more than scientific issues. Some scientific data points are interpreted differently by different scientists leading to irregular conclusions. Most subjects, however, can be easily proven.
My point is to question everything: science, politics, religion, society, yourself and why some people feel compelled to use caps-lock in posts.
