Funny you mention that. I have TOTALY noticed that when things have gone horribly wrong. Like the time I got robbed in a super shitty part of town, pushing my motorcycle through a pretty shitty part of town to get it to the shop for some kind of work I didn't want to have to do myself... the only time a robbery ever succeeded, because my bike was so important to me at that time. I would have killed for that thing, but I could sacrifice my walkman for it.
Sometimes not, remarkably. I rented a [really fucking cool, in hindsight] house in chinatown some years later. The gut who lived there before us warned me how dangerous it was and how he got robbed and that was partly why he moved away.
Well, I was itching for a fight, being young and armed at the time, and I encountered nothing but guarded friendliness in response. It's SO MUCH about attitude and how you present yourself. I WANTED to get messed with; I was looking for a fight. The locals who felt similarly just accepted me as one of their own, sort of, and I got left alone there.
Yeah, I know, that would not have worked the same in the previous putrosity infested area where I got my walkman stolen, but such is life. Live and learn.
And Asian hooligans are much more human than subhumans, I guess. Also, our friend who lived in that house before us was a fucking wimp.
Commonly called "hunches" or "premonitions". It is yourself in the future trying to warn or advise you. The scientist Korbynsky did a lot of studies about the phenomena.
On a lighter note, there's that other type of related instinctual random feeling - that nagging gut feeling you feel after you've left for vacation (and been on the road for awhile) wondering whether you left the coffee pot on.
More often, I have strong feelings about something that's wrong and a strong urge to take some action.
I had an old college roommate friend that I hadn't seen or talked to in years. For some reason, his name kept popping up in my head but not strongly enough to take action until a day or two later when I was mowing the lawn. I suddenly had such a powerful thought of him that was so strange, unusual and urgent that I actually stopped the mower and called him right away. It turned out that he was at a church looking for any last reason not to commit suicide that day. We spent several hours on the phone and he says that one call saved his life.
I can't explain how I received some kind of premonition or message or something - I'm not particularly religious and consider myself a pretty reasonable and logical thinker. Was it a spiritual thing, some kind of energy transfer, disturbance in the matrix, a random coincidence, ...? I don't know but it's one of those very strange experiences that make you wonder about things.
When I went to school in SF, I lived in a dorm on the edge of the Tenderloin district (not a great part of town). I had instinctual feelings quite frequently and would choose not to take certain paths to and from school. Those internal warning feelings were quite strong at times though not from any obvious visual signs. Who knows how much trouble I avoided by heeding those possible warnings.

I'll have to research him

Also research J.W. Dunne, "An Experiment With Time", and Dunne's other books. They are free on the Gutenberg free books site.
