Problem is his skin is incredibly sensitive and damaged. He has been using strong steroid and cortisone creams for over 40 years for his skin problems. His skin is really paper thin because of this. Anything topical is usually not worth the effort because he experiences such itchiness he can't sleep or focus from reactions to it.

That's awful. I can't imagine using cortisone/steroid type meds for more than a couple weeks, let alone decades.
I'd still be curious if it would provide any relief & if was legal I'd say go get a sample jar from a dispensary....but it's not & it would definitely suck to make a whole batch yourself only to not have it work.
Does he know what you're trying to do for him? If he's on board then just have him smoke a little to see how he reacts. No bongs. Buy a pre-rolled joint from a friend and have him take a single hit. Pinch the joint out to save for later. If you don't see any negatives after about 10 minutes, have him smoke a couple more hits & see how he handles it.
And honestly, if you're concerned about interactions with other meds or his physical/mental response, you might be better off trying smoke before edibles. It'll be easier to introduce a low dosage (small, single hits) over a period of time you decide. As opposed to an edible which won't be felt immediately & when it does begin, it's intensity and longevity are no longer in your direct control....especially for someone unfamiliar with producing safe edibles.
If he responds well then it'll definitely be worth exploring edibles for the long term.

No he does not know, I just realized he has gotten much worse lately since I've been visiting him more frequently. I'm not even sure he will want to try but if he does I hope it helps. Just wanted to know if there was anything super bad that could happen due to his medical issues before I suggested it.
