Is there no situation where outsmarting a child is not possible? Is it 100% guaranteed you can always reason with or outsmart a child?

In my case? I'm sure. I'm not the smartest person in the world. However, that changes nothing. If I can not out smart the child or situation, I have not out smarted it. There is no getting away from the fact that the child gets spanked due to my inability to outsmart the situation. This is a hard pill for most parents but love will push their pride aside if it is there.

"outsmart the child" - basically, don't discipline your child?

Do something bad, get disciplined. Pretty damned straight forward.
Don't do anything bad, don't get disciplined.

I have a daughter and all the "modern-type" parents are surprised at how well behaved, well mannered and intelligent my daughter is. Why? She is taught right from wrong. Does something wrong? Gets a clip 'round the ear along with an explanation as to what she did wrong and why it is wrong.
Explanations are NOT the punishment. They go WITH the punishment.
