It's more of their number system than algebra itself. Decimal places and the use of zero was super important.

Meh, Roman and Babylonian base 10 systems both predated it. Really their only contribution is counting and numerals. At least it is efficient in that regard. Looking at the numerals today there's little rhyme to their methodology. It's only thanks to the Castillean and Aragonese that we have the modern numeral definitive interpretations.
