So the last batch all got eaten, except for one who is swimming about in the bottom of my cannister filter. There were seven others in there who I pulled out when I cleaned it last weekend (I had an inkling i would find a few in there), but i fed them to my puffer. If i get it out and it lives I shall name him Maximus, or her Sorsha.
Anyway a second batch of fry hatched yesterday morning. Family is over for the Easter stuff so I shown a light in the cave cause they wanted to see, I came up after dinner and mom and dad were fighting. I thought, "oh no, my probing has drawn undue attention, they dead"... shown the light again and sure enough they were all gone. This morning, however, I noticed mom was fussing in a third burrow and confirmed the fry were actually just moved and not decimated, so that's nice. no more probing.
The refugium is up, and running, and ready for when the fry come out in the open. Some java moss, lava rocks, two airstones, and a power head with a fine mesh bag o' ceramic media over the intake.
DIY PVC overflow is pretty ugly, but it works. 3/4inch tubing, with a 2inch piece for the weir. I'm using a top fin power head 30 for the return, which surprisingly still pumped a bit too fast for my liking. so i added a ball valve to the outflow.
Close up of the tank currently Had to put some bonsai mesh over the PVC as the excavation proved the kribs have a limited understanding of physics and engineering. I don't mind the sight of pvc as much as i thought i would.
Oh, and i picked up a beta cause he's fabulous.

That's a cool setup, we just came into a 29g and thought about a 10g sump or something. Tank is looking nice and hope the babies do well! I want to repurpose one of our 10 gallons for a beta ;; that guy looks great though!

here's some action for ya. figured it would be easier to move the barbs "downstairs" than to try catching all the fry with mom and dad in attack mode.
