This type of issue really depends on defining the reason for preserving an area. If you allow any type of human access it will cause destruction. If they want to preserve the Anasazi ruins then they need to make it off limits for people. But if the ruins is just in one small area and there are other parts of the canyon that are being reserved as open, natural areas, then people should be allowed to recreate there. Having some sections restricted to non-motorized vehicles makes sense, for safety reasons and for noise concerns that hikers, bikers, and equestrians might have.
