As most of you know we’ve been slowly integrating new code into Voat’s base that makes better use of our hardware infrastructure and other Open Source products in an effort to reduce hosting costs and more rapidly develop features for the community.
Today (sometime) is a pretty big day for Voat (Geek wise). We will be rolling out some code changes that better increase our transparency and privacy.
Dropped votes suck. If you noticed your comment votes or submission votes not “sticking” this was probably because of one of many rules Voat runs. In the past when you passed a threshold or didn’t have enough CCP, Voat would simply drop your request but the UI would appear to count the vote. This raised a lot of concerns with Voat users regarding our integrity. To address these concerns we will
know display the response of the rules engine in the UI and, in addition, have created a page (will update with URL once code is deployed) that displays all rules Voat is running that affect operations such as voting and posting.
With this update we will be opening up voting on anon comments
(submissions should follow shortly) and submissions. We’ve always liked the idea of anon submissions and comments but before we didn’t allow voting on these items, which reduced their appeal. It’s important for us to have users feel that they can have their say at Voat so we’ve looked back at this code and improved it. Let it be known though that votes on anon items will not count towards a user’s CCP or SCP.
Since Voat is still in ALPHA, please let us know of any issues regarding comment voting that you find and we will fix these ASAP. Please post to v/voatdev with bugs.
Updates coming soon!
Thanks Voat, you guys rock.
Well we had a few hiccups earlier and we addressed them. We still have an issue with changing a vote on a previously voted comment. We are working on this and should be fixed in the next hour or so. Until fixed please vote carefully ;)
The comment vote change bug should now be fixed. Any other oddities please post to v/voatdev. Thanks everyone for all the help.
I am taking a break now, everything appears to be working. New updates coming soon. Prepare.
Submission voting is now ported over to the rules pipeline. Let us know if you have any issues. Thanks.
