I just wanted to say that we think you're doing a great job! Thanks for providing an alternative.

  1. If you set up text-based Google Ads I'll disable Ad Block Plus and I'll click on your ads. Just please (whatever you do) don't start using Flash ads!

  2. If you set up a PayPal button and/or Bitcoin address I'll send some money towards servers and bandwidth.

  3. Maybe set up an Indiegogo or Kickstarter campaign to raise money so you can hire more people and dedicate more time?

We can't help you code the site but we can give input and help out financially. We appreciate the updates and we understand that there will be some growing pains as the site expands. I've bookmarked this site and will start using it on a daily basis.

I will rather shoot myself in the foot than see flash ads on whoaverse. In fact, I will do my best to keep it as ad-free as possible, perhaps even enabling subverse admins to disable ads on their subverse.

I will look into a PayPal donate button asap but I want to keep things transparent about how the money would be spent. I also plan to make a section of the site which could show a list of all users which donated (opt in, people can stay anonymous if they want to) and place a permanent badge to all profile pages of donors (opt-in), but enough about that, I have to get back to coding :)

I highly recommend accepting bitcoin, doge, litecoin, etc.

Reddit's sidebar ad philosophy (not the top ad) is a great model of how it should be done. Each ad is manually approved and guaranteed to be of quality and taste. Google ads by comparison have no such guarantee. Text based ads are ugly and won't generate much revenue.

Also, I hope you make it very, very clear that that your investors are comfortable with 100% transparency. Anything short of that is unacceptable, to me at least.

I will second the request for cryptocurrency payment options.

I'm kind of a privacy wonk as well, and I'd love a website that didn't use Google Analytics.

I understand the need for analytics, though, I think Regard is a very interesting alternative.

If you pledge not to use ads or closed tracking software, I'd send you some Bitcoin or Dogecoin tomorrow.

Just signed up! I really hope this becomes as big as, or even bigger than, reddit now that the fundamental feature of vote counters are gone.

I recommend clicking the "New" tab and seeing what's there. Vote things up and down, submit comments, submit your own links. Be the change you wanted to see on Reddit.

Hey, just to let you know that if you ever need help to translate the site in other languages, I'll gladly help with French, as it's my mother tongue.

Other than that, great work ;) !

Oh French, the most beautiful language (imho)! I will write your username down and get in touch asap. For now, you can start by making a list (excel table with two columns) of common words you see on the site today and writing French translation next to these words. This could later be used to import into localization module allowing localization based on language preferences or geographic location of users. Thank you!

I love how we can get away with the best usernames because this site is still quite new.

Software developer here. I don't have a ton of free time, but I might be able to help out with coding tasks, depending on what language and technology you're using.

I found out about this website recently because of the Reddit debacle. I hope that Whoaverse will be able to be successful and grow with the Redditors who might feel compelled to move over here. In any case, I sincerely thank you for providing an alternative and I'll be glad to support this website in any way I can.

Roger that! I didn't receive a notification of your response (maybe not implemented yet?) but I've been checking back on posts that I've made. Thanks for the advice.

frist pots!

Hey everyone new user from reddit.

This feels so weird like Digg versus reddit.

Slashdot to Ars Technica to Digg to reddit to whoaverse?

When Dice took over Slashdot and started building the Beta site, some of the oldest Slashdot users created a new site called Soylentnews.org. It's the same deal with reddit to whoaverse. The original site got too commercial and repressive and the core users leave, trying to rebuild a new community with a bit of the early idealism that the original site had.

It's a constant process. It'll probably happen to this site eventually to, unless it's run entirely non-commercially, like Wikipedia or some sort of non-profit.

When you get a chance, it would be nice if comments as well as submissions were in the profile. And if you could tell if someone responded to a comment.

But I know you are busy. Great work!!
