There is an ignore/block function that could be used to also cut-down on the spam. There are multiple ways it could be used as such. There could be a "default" ignored group which is just individuals who have been ignored/blocked by the vast majority of regular users which could be optionally toggled off in the account settings if one so chooses.

There could also be "ignore" sets that could be "subscribed" to that could be curated by mods/admins.

I think the best option is allowing the individual user to have the maximum control over the content they wish to see without having to censor the content from others who just may wish to see it.

This would be a hands-off method of dealing with spam which allows for the most personal freedom and keeps us away from the whole danger of authoritarian censorship.
