Let me say it here too: can we get a shared development server while you're setting up hosts? Let those of us who want to contribute l33t coder skillz to voat do it without having to jump through all the hoops of setting it up locally.

(Oh god.. thumbnails on served from the main server?! That's gotta change!)

not the only obvious technical design problem. All this praise of how hard you guys are working and throwing money at you is ignoring the fact that the evidence is obvious that you are inexperienced at actually running the site with hundreds of thousands of active users.

It was slow when I joined, and there were very few users. A site like this presents tons of caching issues due to the unique content on every page with all these settings and variables. It becomes very easy to add a feature that slows things down in non-obvious ways.

And I'm sure there's more geeks out there besides myself who'd be happy to help-- @Atko just needs to make it easier for us to do so! Together we can get this place ship-shape!

No risk of hacking-- it just adds 50+ requests for images per user per page load to the same server that's trying to also serve HTML pages and whatnot. Every other website keeps thumbnails (and all other images) on a separate server.

(Well, ok, mine doesn't, but it only has 8 small images.)
