Glad you see you're still giving us a transparency report.

It looks like those rumors of a DDOS attack the other day, turned out to be substantiated.

Keep up the great work Atko, and I'm glad to hear that you had a wonderful vacation.

Yeah, so that peak in bad browsers, shows the slowness was not just because reddit was down and people came over here, but a ddos, which maybe coincided with one on reddit at the same time? Surprised voat was even up then.

It's been observed before. When Reddit has issues they DDOS Voat as it's likely to pick up users during those times.

That would definitely compound the server load. I know it went down briefly the other night. But was back up within 20 minutes or so.

I find it kind of amusing how there was nearly a 2 week gap between major threats.

I was on holidays but also, Switzerland is amazing during summer, so I take every chance that I get to go out for a rideJPG on my MT07.

Looks like he traveled around the country on his motorcycle.

By the way, if there is one thing that you would like to see implemented on Voat, what would it be?

Please give mods/users a 'mark nsfw' button to label submissions after being created. Flairs aren't as effective since they don't show up on /v/all or the front page.

Would like an official way for users to remove unwanted moderators from subs.

He did create 9 out of the 10 subverses he currently moderates, so kicking him out of those would be like kicking Amalek out of his v/TheRealAmalek subverse. v/gunsarecool is the only one that he stole from a former Voat user.

What did he do?

SRS could take over Voat in a fraction of the time it took for them to control reddit if this 'big fish eats little fish' rule is implemented.

I'd stick with the idea from @puttitout and add rules for moderator conduct to the tos.

I think this should only be possible when the subverse is not the mod's own content.

So say, for instance, the mod of /v/Hearthstone goes batshit crazy and starts banning and censoring people, then the community votes to remove him and elect a new mod in his place. This is fine because he doesn't own Hearthstone, he just first started the sub for the Hearthstone community on this site.

But in the case of something like /v/juicetown, that sub is focused around what /u/juicetown wants, it's his to do with what he pleases, and if users aren't happy, they can leave.

I see your point and my initial reaction to it was: If the subscribers of v/Hearthstone are unsatisfied with the sub, why don't they create v/Hearthstone2 and all go there to do the things they please?

After considering this perspective though, if someone were to somehow take v/JuiceTown (and I still wanted to voat), I would just go and start v/JuiceTown2 -- in this sense we're really discussing the issue of who gets the url. The code i've written for my sub is publicly available for anyone to take; my artwork as well, so i cannot legitimately claim ownership of these things. so what do I own? perhaps it's u/JuiceTown. perhaps it's the spirit of JuiceTown which lies within me -- a spirit which no one can take, or moderate. perhaps the spirit of JuiceTown lies within us all; a little bit of juice in each one of us... Long Live the Juice

Voat NEEDS this kind of regulation to avoid going the way of Reddit.

So say, for instance, the mod of /v/Hearthstone goes batshit crazy and starts banning and censoring people, then the community votes to remove him and elect a new mod in his place. This is fine because he doesn't own Hearthstone, he just first started the sub for the Hearthstone community on this site.

I had this happen to me when I got an unjustified ban from /r/starcraft for posting there on a parody account. The problem is, if I circumvented that ban by then posting on my main account, I'd be shadowbanned as a whole from Reddit. The sad thing is, nobody gave a fuck when I tried calling it out on other subreddits.

Democracy will backfire just like it does irl. The good get voted out and the cancer takes over. Keep the current elite in power and all will be good.

Thanks for keeping us updated Atko.

Would love to see @Puttitout back on sometime soon, haven't seen the guy in quite some time.

You should also definitely add the mod ability to move submissions to /v/whatever or other subverses. It would give mods an option to clean up their subverses without deleting content, thus helping to avoid the censorship problem.

Having the "move submission to v/whatever or a subverse specifically built as a mod dumping ground" idea be an extra option in the mod's toolbox is good. Having it replace the ability to delete posts is bad.

Having it replace the ability to delete posts is bad.

100% agree, I definitely want mods to be able to delete stuff that is not supposed to be anywhere on Voat, not even /v/whatever. The move option would just be the goto for anything that doesn't break Voat rules, but also doesn't belong in a specific subverse.

Hi, great to hear from you.

Things to implement: Take care of the spammers reported in /v/ReportSpammers, transfer subs from /v/SubverseRequest, check out the bugs from /v/VoatDev, and then proceed onto /v/IdeasForVoat. :)

Hug.

Fix the PM system. Make it so you can see how many characters you have left before voat eats the PM and doesnt save what you wrote, and doesnt send the pm.

Appoint janitors to an anti spam team, who can batphone you with spamming accounts for you to shut down everyday. Read /v/reportspammers

I think a character count would be a brilliant addition. I doubt it would even be that difficult to implement. But it sure would save a lot of head aches.

It could be done as a userscript, even. Surprising that AVE doesn't already have a function for it.

It's good to see the boys are back in town. If I had one feature request it would be to find a way to activate those block buttons. I don't personally care much about blocking users one way or the other but every so often there's a new thread up asking when it will be possible to block users and that block button has been there forever. I guess it's a hard feature to implement but I think it is something that people would like to see happen.

Outside of that I think I'm good for Voat features.

a ban for HenryCorp and anyone else that is a proven shill running subverses like a dictator.
