We should have seen this coming; Atko's been popping up here and there, and the One True Putt has been, well, One True Putting as usual.

A good omen of goats!

Warrant canary?

EDIT: look downthread for response from One True Putt; OP has been edited.

@Atko or @PuttItOut it would be reassuring to hear back on this one, just because a lack of a response is telling and very concerning.

I know we have that one post, and last time warrant canary came up Atko updated it, but the problem with that system is if the canary does die, you won't be able to update it again, or talk about how's it's died, so we'll just have a post that was once true, and silence to reassure us. Something that requires you to remove a statement might be worth considering, though nowadays that may be just as ineffectual.

Considering they haven't commented on it since you should assume it's dead/ Edit: Thread updated. Thanks PutItOut.

They said they were going to include it in all official comm, eg announcement posts, this doesn't have one.

I assumed it was like 'hot' on reddit.

Which I never fully understood. Fast rising comments?

What you're talking about is a controversial tab. Intensity needs clarification.

This update offers new comment sorting algorithms (New, Top, Old, Intensity, and Bottom), support for in-page async comment sorting (no more full page refresh), and comment cache syncing (comments will be synced with cache meaning that new comments will be immediately visible, edited comments will show their state change, and user deleted comments will be removed from the tree upon deletion.)

Yes! Awesome

@PuttItOut

I assume 'intensity' is about the number of voats either way up or down in a certain time period?

great changes, particularly because this allows users to at least more freedom to access info.

Intensity is supposed to reflect the voting for/against a particular comment, much like a controversial sort.

For right now we are using this logic and sorting descending:

(UpCount * DownCount) / Math.Max(1, Math.Absolute((UpCount - DownCount)))

This is what the data looks like using this

We'd love some input on these sorts as we can easily add/change sorting now that we have the comment code converted.

I just wasted 30 minutes wading through reddit's codebase. Their sorting algorithms can be found here. Controversial sorting works like this:

if (UpCount <= 0  ||  DownCount <= 0) return 0;
if (UpCount > DownCount)
    balance = DownCount / UpCount;
else
    balance = UpCount / DownCount;
return Math.Pow((UpCount + DownCount), balance);

Thanks for the explanation.

/u/nastymatt /u/Chiefpacman /u/SaneGoatiSwear You three asked else where about Intensity. The parent to this comment has an explanation from PutItOut.
