On one hand, I'm glad they didn't pull the "We're on the brink of extinction and critically low on manpower but we're gonna jail this fighter anyway because he disobeyed orders" bullshit, but on the other hand they should've avoided this in the first place by not putting themselves in this situation to begin with with the whole "Yeah, we have no soldiers available but NO YOU CAN'T GO OUTSIDE." Plus, the same problems from last week (reinforcements were 20 minutes away but showed up really quickly anyway) apply with the arrival of even MORE reinforcements to the battle.

Then, we have the "Dramatic piano plays over the funeral" for a character we literally saw for like 5 minutes. The only reason I can remember "Eric" is because I think he was the only blonde in the show so far. You could've replaced him with anyone else in the show and the emotional impact would've been exactly the same.

Coupled with Daisuki being an annoying-as-fuck stream (and I'm not in the position to use other means), Episode 3 better as hell impress me because otherwise I'm looking at a drop.

I do agree with the funeral bit, I found it relatively pointless. I feel like it's meant to be that moment to make the MC reflect on his mistakes. For the viewers though, it was just kind of pointless. I still think the whole, I'm going on my own despite orders bit hurt the show right from the get go and I don't think they can really recover. I do hope this new character showing up next episode fixes things. (Seeing as I've seen random comments about 'best girl' showing up next week) So we'll see.

Yeah. I think that the "I'm going on my own" bit would've worked if God Eater had been first to market, but AoT, Sidonia, and a dozen other shows with the "I must destroy all [existential threat to humanity]" setting came out first and robbed it of novelty. I feel like market saturation really should've been a factor in their production considerations, but nope - and now it's stale.
