Most of the suggestions so far are on point, but you have to check out Steins;Gate!

Welcome to the anime fandom. A friendly reminder that Sturgeon's Law applies, and that anime is not a cheap hobby.

First off, I'd recommend using a site like crunchyroll.com or using resources like animenewsnetwork.com to find potential streams that are properly licensed and secure.

Now, for some good free and legal shows that you can find, here's a selection:

Angel Beats: A moe-style action/drama with some supernatural dealings. If you aren't familiar with moe, it generally refers to a very cutesy-bubbly-sparkly art style. If nothing else, it will serve as a good thermometer for if you like the style.

ef - a tale of memories: A romantic drama know for its incredible art detailings and music, and psychological complexities. If you aren't certain if you are a fan of the romance genre, this can be a decent introduction.

Hanasaku Iroha: A slice-of-life show about a girl with a dysfunctional family who is forced to move in with her estranged grandmother who owns an inn and is forced to work for her keep. Workplace drama, character development, and shenanigans are a norm here.

Maoyu: An economic/fantasy piece about a Hero and a Demon King who instead of fighting each other instead opt to conspire to bring about peace and prosperity by means of social and economic reform. Good writing and comedy, and a very interesting look at the world.

Puella Magi Madoka Magica: If you're new to anime, then you aren't likely to understand the full hype around this show. It has been described by many as a "breath of fresh air for the mahou-shoujo genre", since it took a tired and repetitive genre and gave it a new twist. Definitely considered to be a "classic", and if you like mahou shoujo or dystopian fantasy, then here's a good show.

The World God Only Knows: A comedy/harem show where a person who is obsessed with galge (gal games, or dating sims) becomes contracted by a demon to help capture loose souls that have infected the hearts of women in the area. The show is known for deconstructing and satirizing a variety of tropes and themes within anime, and the writing is amazingly good. When using crunchyroll, make sure you scroll down to select season one, as they will show you the latest season first.

XAM'd: Lost Memories: It has mutants. It has military. It has action. It has a great animation budget. Quite honestly a nice show with good character action.

Asura Cryin': Demons and mechas and mindf**ks, oh my! I'll admit it starts a bit slow, but when it catches pace (and it does so by episode 7 or so), it quickly juggernauts its way into a deeply woven lore and story where it will flip what you think you know upside-down several times. Amazingly fun and exciting to watch.

If they have it I highly recommend Cowboy Bebop. It is an awesome anime. Speed Grapher is pretty good as well. I would also recommend Ga Rei: Zero.

These aren't any new releases, but they are definitely worth checking out in my opinion.

Edit: I can't check out the website because I am on my phone. So those shows may not be available on that site.

Those are all on there. Thanks I will heck those out.

The list is extensive, extremely so. I'm pretty sure that if you can name it, I'll find it on there. For example, they have every Pokemon (as far as I know, I will only ever accept the original series and there are only 150 Pokemon).

Then you're missing out! X/Y were fantastic games, probably the best since the original releases, and I hear the newest anime season actually flirts with relationship development (though we all know it will go nowhere because Ash is 10 forever). I can't really speak much for the anime, since I, also, haven't watched it since the first season, but the X/Y are A+ games.

As for actual suggestions from that site? You seem to like shonen stuff, so I'd suggest Kill la Kill, Beck, The Devil is a Part-Timer!, and High School of the Dead (a guilty pleasure of mine).I'd also suggest Avatar the Last Airbender. which isn't really an anime, but its good and it's on that site,

Based of what you watched I would recommend. Gurren Lagan, Full Metal alchemist/ FMA: brotherhood. Attack on Titan and Akame ga kill.

And for recommendations of slightly different genres, Ouran High school host club, My teen romantic comedy SNAFU (Oregairu). Stiens Gate. Baka to Test. Gekkan shoujou nozaki-kun.

For fullmetal Alchemist, there are 2 different versions: fullmetal alchemist and fullmetal alchemist: brotherhood. Brotherhood follows the manga more precisely and is generally regarded as the better one of the two.
