Hard enough juggling 8 week old baby and going to work

Also beyond demanding tribute, getting called on my "bluff" by being invaded and then destroying the world I don't see it playing out too many different ways :P (but if I was a real life North Korea it would totally be my game plan. Fun fact there are several cobalt mines in NK and the "fizzle nukes" they previously tested are more than powerful enough to set off the 3 stage nuclear reaction. Delivery isn't necessary and there is no known size limit)

EDIT: Oops responded to wrong message NM

Fun story.

There was a guy about a month or two ago who responded to one of my posts. I play as Iceland and I made a post about a volcano erupting and grounding planes in eastern Europe for two weeks. The dude started messaging me and was freaking out because he was going on holiday to Iceland the week after hahaha, said he couldn't find any news articles about it and was asking for a source.

What would happen if a user successfully attempted to take over the world?

0
4

[–] PM_ME_YOUR_ARCHES [S] 0 points 4 points (+4|-0) ago

That would probably never happen. We have an emphasis on realism, and any military invasions must have a reason behind them. For example, the US, the Netherlands, Ukraine and a lot of other countries are currently fighting a war in Syria against ISIS and the Assad government, but they had to get permission from the United Nations Security Council before they invaded.

If anyone does take over the world, my money is on Tuvalu.

Tuvalu could easily. No one pays attention to it, so when the heavy guns are built, it will be a secret to all.

If I realistically started building a cobalt bomb and threatened the world wouldn't that pretty much break the game since a large enough cobalt bomb could wipe out all life on the planet?

[–] PM_ME_YOUR_ARCHES [S] 0 points 1 points (+1|-0) ago

Other countries would probably invade you and place huge sanctions on you. It's quite interesting actually, the vast majority of players are against any sort of conflict.

You would have to come up with a reason for the production of the bomb I suppose. We did almost have an endgame scenario, Russia was threatening nuclear war against the US, but it was resolved. Moderators would be very strict on any actions that could potentially cause something that would end the game.

Can be built in an underground mine it acts as a deterrent for any aggressive retaliation, sort of MAD++. Doesn't require delivery and you reveal it once it is ready, a doomsday weapon.

W1 "Increased activity at X mine" .....W60 leader seen wearing large silver bracelet... W75 bomb is revealed and tribute demanded. If you got invaded activate, also activate if your pulse stops for 2 min or longer. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cobalt_bomb

Have you ever kicked anyone out of the game? What would cause someone to be expelled?

We also had a moderator who played as Germany in the beginning. He tried to turn it into a fascist state in one post, then we invalidated it. Then he made the same post again 2 hours later, we invalidated that and he nuked his account, never to be seen again.

We've had to remove a few players, yes. We refer to these people as "Old [Country Name]" because we encourage new players to claim these nations once they've been vacated, but here's a few examples:

  • Old Austria tried to put 50% of his GDP towards military and build a navy for a landlocked countries. We countered his proposals and explained why they weren't reasonable. He responded by arguing for four hours without relenting.
  • Old Brazil overthrew the democratic government with a dictator, tried to raise a 4.5 million strong army in four months, and then when the mods said that his posts weren't valid and tried to fix them, he pitched a fit and tried to pay people to leave the subverse.
  • Old India was with us for 10 extremely long days, but in that time the modteam had to deal with him more than any other user. His posts constantly needed changing or invalidating, and when things were changed, he would try and barter for hours. When he was told he couldn't have a moon base, he snapped and griefed our wiki, changing the names of country information pages and removing content that wasn't his. He also went on a downvoating spree in the subverse.

The only reason we've removed players is becasue they've been insufferable and resistant to the mod's suggestions to try and keep the game moving. The modteam always tries to suggest changes to a post. It's when a player refuses that help that we have to take more drastic measures.

EDIT: Sorry, to respond to the second question, you can get expelled/removed for a few reasons.

  • Fail to follow our activity requirements. If you claim a nation, you need to post within a week of claiming or you're automatically revoked. You also need to post at least once a week. Failure to post in 14 days without submitting an AFK notice means you get removed. To handle this activity system we send out PMs to players every 3-4 days to keep on top of things.
  • Do something like the examples above. We try to keep things realistic yet fun. Shoving half of your landlocked nation's GDP towards a military/naval budget isn't realistic.

Haha, I am can't help but be impressed with the player who attempted to set up a moon base. That takes gumption.

How do you feel about the current North Korean Civil War that is happening. Any sides? Any hopes?

We will mercilessly crush any imperialist opponents of the current glorious socialist regime.

One of my main hopes in this civil war is that I get to win.

Simply time constraints. Nothing major like Old Brazil/India/Austria.

How do you play in general?

How is combat decided?

Can I say Texas voted to leave the union and claim the New Republic of Texas? That's somewhere in the bounds of realism.

The mod team might let you try, but the America player won't let you succeed.

Posts are divided into different categories (news, event, conflict, diplomacy etc.) based on their content. You can basically do anything, as long as it is based on realism. For example, I could play as Russia, declare war on Ukraine and invade them (this already happened years ago in game), but I couldn't play as India and try and build a moon base in 5 years (this also happened.)

Combat is decided on a roll system. A country will declare war, and then post their assets that they want to send to a certain province. Each then player rolls a 10 sided dice in our IRC, and a round of battle is based on the two numbers they roll, and casualties/equipment damages will be worked out from that roll. There are modifiers though, so for example, the US will have a +1 to every roll they make against ISIS because they have better equipment etc.

Texas could potentially leave the union, but that would have to be simulated by the player who currently plays as the US. That is a surprisingly common question hahaha

This is a question for the entire team.

What is your favorite <alcoholic drink>?

Single Malt Scotch if I'm feeling spendy. Whiskey otherwise.

[–] laceface 0 points 1 points (+1|-0) ago  (edited ago)

I don't drink alcohol because a) I'm underage in the US and b) personal reasons.

However, sparkling cider is fucking delicious and I can drink a whole bottle by myself on New Years.

EDIT: paging @thorium @boukert @JayTea as well because I know they'll have an answer.
