Sorry, but this is most likely due to how the query is constructed and how the algorithms work.

  • Couple with baby - will show you mostly white people with babies.
  • Couple with white baby - will show you non-white people holding a white baby. (It might be that the algorithm leans towards the 'unique' combination of non-whites with white babies, because there is more interest in that combination, compared to white with white child).
  • "White couple" with baby - will show, mostly, white people with baby. (note the quotation marks)
  • White couple with white baby - will give you the same results as 'Couple with white baby', since the extra 'white' is ignored when not part of a quoted search term.

Also, don't forget that users can push things into search results. Like the Danish flag popping up when you search for the Swedish flag (a joke from /r/Denmark).

Finally, 'white' is just a term - white != white people. There are plenty of things that are white in most of those pictures. White backgrounds, babies wearing white clothing, etc.

But then again - it might just be one big conspiracy :)
